"Prometheus" demonstrates forces that are difficult or impossible to keep under control. The film is tense, and these are not empty words. Now on to the subjective virtues.
The most controversial character I would call Peter Weiland, because he combines not only the sincere curiosity and desire to get to the truth, inherent in Elizabeth, Charlie and David, but also the desire to prolong their own lives. That is, not all goals are so noble, although the desire to learn about the origin of mankind and unravel one of the main mysteries of the universe is in the first place. It is impossible not to draw a parallel: Peter Weyland and the Creator himself, and his creation is out of control.
This creation has become my favorite character. The first topic that fascinated me was androids, their interaction with the outside world, personality traits and, finally, differences and similarities with people. First of all, David’s statements about parents are interesting, his desire for freedom from the creator, combined with a desire to find an equal. Michael said in an interview that David "understands that his mind is perfect, and therefore he is superior to man."
In David I was able to see the loneliness, and the loneliness is unconscious, manifested in the desire to find his own kind, because he is undoubtedly admired by the Creators and proud that he, the only one of them, has the opportunity to talk to a representative of the ancient race. And how powerful is the moment when the Creator touches David’s forehead and he smiles. But this moment does not last long.
Loneliness, the relationship between the Creator and his Creation, the collapse of illusions are the main themes of the film. And they make Prometheus terrifying; the little man is left alone in a vast cosmos inhabited by the unknown, and the question is whether this man will break, overcome fear, find faith in himself, find the desire to go on. Elizabeth Shaw found it.
One of the main drawbacks of the film is some predictability, but despite guesses about the plot twists, what happens on the screen is addictive. The inefficiency can be attributed to both pros and cons, and I prefer to build theories than to talk about a story with a closed ending, clear and understandable. At this point, the most interesting thing to know is why the Creators decided to destroy our race. Did people want to be like the gods?
